Blue PVC coated forty-nine strand wire. The plastic coating & large diameter makes it easier to handle.  

400lbs wire:  diameter (incl. coating) 3.1mm.  Sleeves to fit: alloy 3.3mm - 3.5mm;  2.2mm double copper & 2.2mm double brass (if PVC is stripped)

600lbs wire:  diameter (incl. coating) 4mm.  Sleeves to fit:  alloy 4.5mm;  2.8mm double copper (if PVC is stripped)
